Looking to make your wedding day truly unforgettable? In 2024, Christmas Eve (Tuesday) and Christmas Day (Wednesday) fall on weekdays, giving you the unique opportunity to officially submit your marriage application on these special dates and have your marriage registered on either day.
Why Is This Possible in Japan?
In Japan, city offices remain open during the Christmas holidays since these dates are not officially recognized as public holidays. While Christmas is lightly celebrated in Japan, it is considered a regular workday, making it possible to submit your marriage application without delay.

How to Prepare
To ensure a smooth process, follow these steps:
- Obtain Your Affidavit: If you are a US service member, obtain your single or joint affidavit from the military base and have it notarized as soon as possible.
- Send Us Your Documents: Email or message us a copy of your affidavit once notarized.
- Translation Services: We will translate your affidavit, passport, and birth certificate into Japanese (if required by your city office). We’ll also complete your marriage application form.
Witness Support
Both my wife and I can serve as your witnesses on the marriage application. As Japanese residents, we are not required to physically accompany you to the city office when you submit your documents.
