A Whirlwind May at Dave Higgins Office: Marriages, Retrievals, and 15 Years of Trust

What a phenomenal and incredibly busy May it has been here at Dave Higgins Office! As we look back on the past few weeks, Hazuki and I are just overwhelmed with gratitude. It is hard to believe we have been doing this for over 15 years now—time truly just flies by when you are helping people navigate major life milestones.

This month, we had the distinct pleasure of helping multiple international couples tie the knot here in Japan. Our itinerary included coordinating marriages for two different sets of New Zealand couples and two different sets of Australian couples, all successfully registered in Tokyo’s Minato Ward. We also assisted a wonderful UK couple with their marriage procedures in Shinjuku. Closer to home, we helped a Canadian couple on a “strike mission” get married down here in Okinawa at the Yomitan Village Office!

Beyond marriages, our document retrieval and authentication services were in full swing. We successfully navigated the Japanese Family Court system to reissue a divorce decree from the early 2000s, and worked with the Okinawa City Office to track down and reissue a marriage certificate dating back to the 1990s. As you can see in our latest photo, we also processed several Apostille authenticated documents to ensure our clients’ paperwork is internationally recognized.

All of this was done alongside our regular, ongoing work: translating countless Koseki Tohons (family registers), Affidavits, and Birth Certificates for clients not only located here in Okinawa, but spread all across Japan.

Hazuki and I often pause to reflect on how amazing it is that people from all corners of Japan—and the world—consistently choose us over everyone else out there to handle these sensitive, critical documents. Thank you for 15+ years of trust.
