We offer comprehensive services for the legalization and attestation of documents for countries not part of the Hague Convention, directly through the Embassies and Consulates in Japan.
While some Hague Convention countries accept Apostille authentication, certain documents may still require direct embassy attestation. Whether you are outside Japan or have a busy schedule, we can act as your Power of Attorney to complete the process on your behalf.
Our Attestation & Legalization Process
The requirements and fees for each Embassy or Consulate vary, but here is a general outline of the process for documents issued in Japan:
- Document Reissue: If the document was issued by a Japanese City Office, it must be reissued within 3 months of the legalization request.
- Certified Translation: The document must be translated by a certified translator (we provide this service).
- Notarization: The document must be notarized by an official notary public in Japan (we provide this service).
- Legal Bureau Authentication: The document must be authenticated by the legal bureau (we can handle this step).
- Apostille Authentication (for Hague Convention countries only): The document is authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Japan.
- Embassy/Consulate Legalization & Attestation: Finally, the document is submitted for legalization and attestation at the relevant Embassy or Consulate in Japan.
Countries Outside the Hague Convention
For non-Hague Convention countries, certain steps like Apostille authentication are not necessary. However, each Embassy or Consulate has specific procedures that must be followed, and we ensure that all requirements are met accurately.
