How to Get Married in Okinawa, Japan – Expedited Services

At Dave Higgins Office, located in Kadena Town, we specialize in helping you get legally married in Okinawa, Japan, with expedited services that allow you to complete the process in as little as one day.

Here’s how it works:

Step 1: Obtain the Single Status Affidavit

The process begins with obtaining a single-status affidavit, known as the Affidavit, from the Legal Services Office on any military base in Okinawa. Based on ease of access, the recommended offices are:

  1. Camp Foster Legal Office
  2. Torii Station Legal Office
  3. Kadena Legal Office

If you are a U.S. military service member, you can use any of these offices to acquire the affidavit. If both you and your fiancé(e) are U.S. citizens (military or civilian), you’ll need to obtain a Joint Affidavit.

Step 2: Send Us Your Documents

Once you have the affidavit, simply send us a clear photo or scanned copy via:

Additionally, we’ll need a copy of either your passport or birth certificate.

Step 3: Document Translation and Application Preparation

We’ll translate your documents into Japanese and prepare your marriage application. Both Hazuki and I will serve as your witnesses on the application, as required. Since we are Japanese residents, you won’t need us to accompany you to the city office when you submit the documents.

Step 4: Submit Your Application to the City Office

After submitting your completed application to the city office, you’ll receive your official Japanese marriage certificate.

Step 5: Translation of the Japanese Marriage Certificate

To report your marriage on base or to U.S. authorities, the Japanese marriage certificate must be translated into English. We’ll handle this translation for you after you receive the certificate.

Why Choose Us?

With over 12 years of experience marrying international couples in Japan, we ensure a smooth and stress-free process, no matter your nationality.

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re here to help!
