At Dave Higgins Office, we proudly provide expert interpretation services across Japan, including Okinawa, Iwakuni, Camp Fuji, and other locations. Recently, we had the privilege of supporting collaborative training sessions between U.S. military fire departments and Japanese firefighters, emphasizing the importance of international cooperation in firefighting and safety.

Did you know that many firefighters working on U.S. military bases in Japan are local Japanese civilians? These individuals undergo rigorous training programs often organized by Japanese fire departments and taught by instructors from the United States.
In this instance, our interpreter facilitated communication for a class of brand-new recruits with no prior firefighting experience. The training covered everything from basic equipment and fire chemistry to rescue techniques, hazardous materials handling, and fire safety protocols.

The training wasn’t limited to lectures; there were hands-on practical exercises, and our interpreter was immersed in the process. From witnessing rescue techniques to participating in some of the practical scenarios, they gained firsthand experience alongside the recruits. By the end of the program, the recruits successfully passed all four written exams and skill tests.

One of the most rewarding aspects of this assignment was witnessing the transformation of the recruits. Starting as novices, they developed the mindset of professional firefighters, learning not just technical skills but also teamwork and a deep commitment to fire safety.
To further integrate into the experience, our interpreter at Dave Higgins Office took the same exams as the recruits and earned the same firefighting certificates—a testament to their dedication and ability to fully support our clients.

Dave Higgins Office offers interpretation and translation services for a wide range of industries throughout Japan. Thanks to this unique assignment, we’ve expanded our expertise to include firefighting and safety. Whether you’re organizing training sessions, conferences, or collaborative programs between U.S. military personnel and Japanese counterparts, we’re here to ensure clear communication and successful outcomes.
