Still Hot: Book Review

Still Hot: The Uncensored Guide to Divorce, Dating, Sex, Spite, and Happily Ever After is less an informative book on divorce and more a comedic take from a woman’s perspective. Unlike my previous, more serious book on divorce, this one is lighthearted and genuinely made me laugh. However, it also contains a few real gems presented in a satirical tone.

One point that stood out was the depiction of ex-husbands potentially spending vast amounts of money on vacations and excursions with their new girlfriends. This money could otherwise be used for the children or split evenly between spouses during the final settlement. Essentially, a husband, who may very well be the breadwinner, might feel entitled to the entirety of the assets and cash before the official divorce. He can spend freely on his new partner, and when the official divorce proceedings happen, the division of assets and cash will be based on the time of divorce, not the time leading up to it.

This scenario is something I have witnessed firsthand, which has made me more sympathetic to all the female spouses who choose to be housewives and raise children. This career path is often not respected enough by full-time working husbands. If a couple has children and a home, a stay-at-home mother is an essential building block for raising children properly and deserves as much respect as a full-time career husband.

Another challenge for women after a divorce is that if they were housewives, they often don’t have the same skillset, career, and job options as their husbands. This puts them in a very difficult situation, essentially starting from ground zero, while the husband has a significant advantage post-divorce.

Divorce can be really tough, and there is no easy solution to most of it. However, Still Hot will likely provide some relief, knowing many women have gone through ugly divorces and can still make light of and laugh about their experiences.
