In 2013, our office helped our first US military couple achieve a mutual divorce at the Okinawa Family Court. From that point onwards, we have streamlined the procedure, making it easier and easier for each US citizen, US military service member, and SOFA status member to get divorced.
In 2015, we officially launched our website, www.okinawadivorce.com, and continued to operate it until 2022. During this period, we decided to take a break from our very busy legal translation business, Okinawa Translator, which also handled divorce services.
When we restarted in 2024, we implemented two significant improvements to make the process even easier and faster for our clients. Now, only one member (the Petitioner) needs to visit our office to sign a single document, and both members (the Petitioner and Respondent) need to attend the family court on their hearing date. We handle the entirety of the procedures, so they never need to return to the Okinawa Family Court.

We decided to change our business name to Dave Higgins Office because many clients refer to our business by my name alone. The other member of the team is my wife, Hazuki Yamashiro, who works very hard and closely with the staff at the Okinawa Family Court. The court clerks and judges contact her immediately regarding any case that we submit for our customers. They know both of us very well and are pleased we offer our services, as we streamline the divorce process for them by assisting you from start to finish.
