October has been an incredibly busy month at Dave Higgins Office (formerly Okinawa Translator). We’ve been assisting clients with the reissuance of original marriage certificates from city offices in Okinawa, Japan—many of which were issued over 10 years ago. With more than 12 years of experience in this field, we have become experts at helping clients retrieve these essential documents.
Often, clients need their original documents authenticated for use in their home countries. The method of authentication depends on whether the country is part of the Hague Convention. For countries that are part of the convention, documents require Apostille Stamp Authentication. However, if the country is not part of the Hague Convention, such as Taiwan, the document will likely need to be legalized through the country’s consulate.
Recently, we assisted a client in reporting their marriage in Taiwan by facilitating the legalization process at the Taiwan Consulate in Naha City. As part of our service, we personally deliver the document to the consulate on behalf of the client to have it legalized. In this case, I also provided a certified Chinese translation of the marriage certificate as the authorized signatory.
